![]() ![]() Faye was a nice addition to fix the gender balance on Alm's side a bit, but getting relegated to being a walking friendzonee left her very flat. Two good examples are the ones with the most screen time, Faye and Berkut. What people often praise, but may not realize, about SoV is the "presentation" of its writing rather than the story itself.ģ.5) Building on the story, the characters introduced in the remake are either unnecessary, poorly implemented, or both. Writing includes aspects like personality and coherence (presentation) and flavor dialogue while story is, well, story. NOTE: Confusing writing and story seems to be a common occurrence when describing the story of SoV. One thing that can be said about SoV is that while at times it can involve stupid choices and it often contradicts the moral that they're trying to present, the presentation of its writing was fantastic. However, the story of FE games is kinda all over the place between the games in the series so whether you care about the story or not potentially leaves this a moot point. I'm not going to say that that point is necessarily bad, but coming off of the reception to Fates and Awakening's story, a standard of both high quality and low quality story in modern FE games has been set. It's especially jarring given that gameplay in the series is one of its most consistently compelling aspects.ģ) The plot was kind of simple. There is respect to be had for them deciding to be faithful to the original Gaiden, but doing so left a lot of features feeling very dated and kind of bland, the large, empty maps and lack of class variety being notable examples, arguably to the point of making the game feel less like of a proper remake and more like a graphically updated port. What does salvage many of them is that voiced dialogue and more interaction with minor character throughout the story allowed them to be more fleshed out, but without supports, the development only goes so far.Ģ) Maps, mechanics and gameplay. The lack of supports left a lot of characters underdeveloped. Among the issues:ġ) Besides supports being unfavorably synonymized with the waifu aspects, FE, especially as of the later games in the series is well known for their support system, a system that makes the FE the character driven series that it is. Not hated by most, but not loved by most. I would've loved for Echoes versions of the Jugdral games but its doubtful that'll happen, at least not any time soon. The art is amazing, music is fantastic, even among other RPGs I think its impressive. Actually I ended up really liking almost everyone, beside maybe Faye but I dont like yanderes to begin with. Voice acting is superb and really brings the characters to life, which is partly why I really grew attached to Alm and Celica. It's a shame because the production values are probably the best of almost any FE. Story wise it's pretty traditional coming of age quest stuff, but there are some problems people have, mainly with celica's actions, which is understandable. Most characters have one or two conversations, a few have three, unlike awakening/fates where there were multiple conversations with every army member. If you dont have a cleric with rescue, ya dun goof'd.Īnd for people who got into awakening because of the support conversations, it's very limited in that regard. And dont get me started on Nuibaba's map. ![]() Mechanics like teleporting witches make careful strategizing feel pointless at times. ![]() There are some maps that arent necessarily difficult but really annoying to play at times. And it also sold poorly which doesn't help (though it was a rushed work since it was made in minimal time).Īctually most of the complaints I hear about echoes are gameplay related, since they copy-pasted the maps from gaiden. Overall, it's a SNES remake, so it's missing that Awakening charm, the Conquest gameplay, etc. The characters are rather bland, supports are short, and don't give much story. A fun, interesting FE, that is missing a lot of the charm the newer ones have. maybe a change in artist (I like Hidari but prefer the works of Yūsuke Kozaki), probably made it what it is. The game doesn't play like a regular Fire Emblem.Īll of these things. ![]() no triangle, 3 range archer(Or more), etc. And I tend to like the SNES titles (save for Gaiden). It also has the old map design of FE, which is mediocre. Well, story wise it's simplistic(as all Fire Emblem's are) and it does contradict it's own morals multiple times, so heavy story lovers may find it bad. Shadow Dragon and New Mystery solidified that position and Awakening was a culmination of everything in all of their games, so it pulled them out. The games that got IS into a bad spot were Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn (Japan didn't like the games at all, sold horribly, RD sold even worse than Thracia). ![]()
